Has God the Father Ever Spoken Before To Someone?

We will look at Scriptures and the lives of the Saints.

Firstly the Scriptures.

  • It is written in Exodus that  “Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face , as a man talks to his friend”. Exodus 33:11.  â€‹â€‹

  • Moses – Referring to Moses, Yahweh told Aaron and Miriam “to him I speak face to face , plainly and not in riddles, and he sees Yahweh’s form.”  Numbers 12:8.

There are in fact three occasions recorded in the Gospels in which the voice of God the Father was heard:

The first is at the Baptism of Our Lord and this is recorded in Luke 3:21-22, Mark 1:11 and Mathew 3:17

Luke: 21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized  too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”…

It is clear the Father is speaking since only the Father could say to Jesus, "You are My beloved Son."

The second instance is at the Transfiguration ( Matthew 17:1–8, Mark 9:2–8, Luke 9:28–36):

"A voice was heard from heaven, 'This is my Son, the Beloved he enjoys my favour.  Listen to Him.'"

St  Peter the Apostle and the first head of the Church explains in his letter that this voice was indeed the voice  of God the Father,

2 Peter 1:17-18:

"For He received honour and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'  And we ourselves  heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain."

The third occasion was at  the Last Supper.  All those present   heard the Father :

Jesus said,  "Father, glorify Your name!” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”   John 12:27:28

Since scripture recounts people hearing the voice of God the Father we should be perfectly at ease with the thought that God the Father could deign to speak and  to be heard by Mother Eugenia.

Has God the Father has Spoken to any recognised  Saints?

But one may ask are there God the Father speaks in the lives of the Saints?  Now we are not in a position to say how often this happens but what we do  know if that it did  occur in the life of St Margaret Mary to whom was entrusted the message of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Saint Faustina Kowalska, the Saint to whom the Divine Mercy devotion was entrusted.

St Margaret Mary

Regarding  St Maragaret Mary, she records in her autobiography the following first hand account: "....The Eternal Father presented me with a very heavy cross beset with thorns and surrounded with various instrument of the Passion and (He the Father) said to me:  'See, My daughter, I make thee the same present which I made to My Beloved Son'".

There were two  two instances in the life of St Faustina as she recorded in her diary.  In the first instance it was an interior voice, the second we are not sure if it was interior or exterior, not that that is of great consequence.  The important thing to note that the Father has communicated clearly and precisely using words to his servants.

Diary 626 In the evening, during Benediction, my soul was for some time in        communion with God the Father.  I felt I was in His hand like a little child, and I heard these words in my soul:  Do not fear anything, My daughter; all the adversaries will be shattered at My feet.  At these words, a deep peace and a great interior calm entered my soul.

Just three paragraphs further in the Diary, St Faustina received another message from the Father:

Diary 629  I felt like a child in the hands of the best of fathers, and I heard these words:  "Do not fear anything.  I am always with you.  His love penetrated my whole being.  I felt I was entering into such close intimacy with Him that (87) I cannot find words to express it."

To conclude, we can unreservedly say that God the Father's spoke in the New Testament and His "voice" was heard by those in the company of Jesus at the time, and that in the lives of the Saints He has also spoken as shown in the life of St Faustina.

In His providence God the Father has spoken at great length to Mother Eugenia.  We may well ask, "Why?"    In the text of the message to Mother Eugenia, He explains that it is because man has frustrated the divine plan and gave this message as a final attempt to bring mankind back into the fold of His love and mercy.
